Thank you for visiting the digital home of, EnvisionU. I’m Terré, also know by some as Dr. Terré and there’s an interesting story behind the name.
In 2014 I received an honorary doctorate degree for my 20 years of service in the arts, education, business, and publishing from Indiana Tech University.
It was a challenging time in my life. Although I had accomplished a lot, had traveled and taught around the world, in the eyes of others I was successful, but in my eyes, I felt like an imposter and a failure, but that’s a story for another day or a keynote address ;-).
I share this with you, because even the most successful of us, sometimes feel like imposters. However, you don’t always have to feel like a success in order to be one. Sometimes, you have to just act in the face of fear and learn to build your wings as you soar from the top of the cliff.
As the Founder and Chief Visionary Officer of EnvisionU, I want you to know that you’ve come to the right place for your personal and business development needs. My team and I love working with newbies in business. Those who have just started and even those trying to find their way.
My story isn’t unique to those who believe in the American dream and believe that even a man with less than an 8th grade education, could barely read and write, who grew up in Arkansas and was raised by his grandmother, could go from making $250 per month to $1,000 PER DAY in less than 3 years. I know, because that man is my grandfather.
I come from a family of entrepreneurs. My mom, her parents, several of my aunts and uncles and cousins are all successful entrepreneurs. So I guess you can say, it’s in my blood.
You see, I had a natural affinity for business growing up with entrepreneurs all around me, which made me the kid who convinced my cousins to set up an iced tea, lemonade, and cookie stand as a kid. The only problem was, my grandmother still doesn’t know we borrowed her cookies. Shhh…
It didn’t stop there. I became even more enthralled in business and in 10th grade, I was the fearless and hungry sophomore who sold wholesale candy in school and used the proceeds to fund my bi-weekly hair appointments and my social life with my friends.
In college, I cleaned houses for a short stint, until I quickly realized, cleaning other people’s houses wasn’t something I wanted to do, it was something I wanted to pay others to do for me.
Eventually, I became a classroom teacher and college professor and I taught throughout the 5 boroughs in New York, in Cleveland where I’m originally from, as well as on the south and west sides of Chicago and finally in Abu Dhabi for nearly 20 years total. I guess you can say, I ❤️ to travel.
While I was teaching 5th grade, full-time in Chicago in 2006, I was running a part-time business on the side called, DramaSmarts. I sent teaching artists into schools to teach reading, writing, speaking, and social skills through drama. It is still my greatest accomplishment as an entrepreneur, because we touched the lives of more than 30,000 students in Cleveland, Chicago, and throughout the 5 boroughs of New York, with our work.
I was making an additional 4-figure per month in my side hustle and I was able to pay down debt, travel, and to improve my lifestyle tremendously, but I was exhausted. Perhaps you can relate?
